Staff to the committee: Judy Ruttenberg

Background: Increasing availability of digital media resources, including audio, video, and multimedia content has created an opportunity for TRLN to leverage its collective buying power to expand member collections in these areas.  Much of the content is relatively new to the marketplace and as such, business models for licensing products vary widely with a number favoring economies of scale.  NC LIVE's purchase of digital documentary videos from PBS is a recent example.  A task group is needed to assess digital media product options for TRLN and advise on appropriate business models for acquiring potential/recommended content. The Digital Media Task Group is asked to report back to the TRLN Collections Council before December 31, 2007.

Charge:
  Prepare a concise report to the Collections Council that will advise on:

  • Products available for academic libraries to license (e.g. Naxos, PBS digital videos) and recommend potential TRLN selections, including items already licensed individually by one or more members;

  • Available and preferred business terms for recommended products; and

  • Methods for continually recommending new opportunities to appropriate TRLN entities.

Final Report IP protected
