The TRLN Endeca Shopping Cart Task Group reports to the Technology Council and will draw members from the Endeca Operations Committee and Public Services departments at each campus.

Charge: to guide the development of "shopping cart" services for use in the Search TRLN and the Endeca user interfaces implemented by member libraries. collaborative software development within the consortium is needed to support "easy transitions" for users who use local Endeca user interfaces and Search TRLN. A collaborative approach will also allow libraries to share code where appropriate. The task group will complete its work during the fall semester of 2008, at which time the task group will be disbanded.

Responsibilities:

  • Define functional requirements for a common set of shopping services that can be used in the Search TRLN and local interfaces.
  • Perform software development work to create these services using local systems resources or the TRLN development server at MCNC.
  • Facilitate the evaluation of these services.
  • Implement appropriate shopping cart services in the Search TRLN user interface and Endeca interfaces at member libraries.
  • Consult with staff at all of the libraries at their institution regarding shopping cart feature requests and the evaluation of proposed solutions.

Timeline: A face-to-face kickoff meeting will be held in late August/early September to define desired functionality and delegate discrete development tasks  to operations staff. Specifications will be created and maintained on the Endeca Operations Wiki and development can occur on local systems and the TRLN development server at MCNC. The wiki and a project listserv will enable communications during development. conference calls and face-to-face meetings may be arranged as needed.

Shopping Cart services will be implemented in at least two stages. The team will define the scope of each stage during the kickoff session.
