1. FIRST TWO TRLN DOCTORAL FELLOWS COMPLETE PROGRAM
Cheryl Davis and Carol Perryman are completing their TRLN Doctoral Fellowship this month. Cheryl Davis was hosted by the Scholarly Communications Center at North Carolina State University. Her work at NCSU led to several papers and presentations in the area of copyright law and academic librarianship, listed at http://sils.unc.edu/research/projects/TRLN_Davis.htm .

Carol Perryman collaborated in her research with librarians at the UNC Health Sciences Library and at the Duke University Medical Center Library. Her research revolved around issues of evidence-based library and information practice in academic libraries. Her papers and presentations are available at  http://sils.unc.edu/research/projects/TRLN_Perryman.htm

Please join us in congratulating Cheryl and Carol on their achievements, and in wishing them the best for the future.

2. INTERNATIONAL LIBRARIANS VISIT TRLN
Susan Barnard (NCSU) hosted a delegation of librarians from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan who came to the United States under the auspices of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program. The delegation was interested in learning about cooperative and reciprocal services within TRLN. Thanks to Susan for arranging an informative program at NCSU, and to James Harper, Erick Moore, Greg Raschke and Rob Rucker for their participation.

3. STAFF ENRICHMENT SERIES IS A SUCCESS
Seventy-five library staff members attended a recent program on "Bridging the Generation Gap" by Linda Drake (UNC), and "ERMs: Planning for Electronic Resource Management Systems" by Maria Collins (NCSU). Attendees reported that both sessions were interesting and informative and they enjoyed the opportunity to network with their TRLN colleagues. Many thanks to the Committee on Human Resources Task Force who organized this program - Phoebe Acheson (Duke), Tiffany Allen (UNC), and Laura Blessing (NCSU). Watch for the news of the next installment in this series in the Fall.

4. REGISTER TO ATTEND THE TRLN ANNUAL MEETING
The seventh TRLN Annual Meeting will take place on July 28th, and will feature a keynote address by Deanna Marcum of the Library of Congress, a luncheon talk by author Martin Clark, four informative breakout sessions, and many chances to interact with your friends from all of the TRLN libraries. We ask that you please register in advance for the event to help with the facility arrangements. Register at
www.trln.org by 4:00 pm on July 14, 2006. We look forward to seeing you then!

5. REFERENCE LIBRARIANS TO HOLD SYMPOSIUM
On August 10, from 10 am - 3 pm, TRLN will sponsor a symposium on reference service at the Solution Center. Major topics of discussion will include provision of reference service in an information commons -- how it has changed, what challenges it poses for librarians -- and the new reference collection: more electronic, and potentially smaller. How is this reinvented reference collection built and managed? Participants will also choose from various roundtable topics for lunch. Dr. David Carr, UNC SILS, will make closing remarks. The symposium is open to staff who provide reference services. Look for registration at the TRLN homepage soon.
