Collection Analysis Data
John Burger, Executive Director, Association of Southeastern Research
Libraries presentation
Aisha Harvey, Collection Development/Reference Librarian, Duke
presentation
Diane Strauss, Associate University Librarian for Public Services, UNC
presentation
This year, TRLN participated in a group
subscription to the OCLC WorldCat Collection Analysis Service, along with
libraries of the Association for Southeastern Regional Libraries (ASERL)
and the Florida Center for Library Automation (FCLA). John Burger,
Executive Director of ASERL, will share information on how ASERL libraries
have used the OCLC data to make collection management decisions. Aisha
Harvey, Duke University, will report on the work of the TRLN Collection
Analysis Task Group, which used OCLC WCA to analyze subject strengths,
unique content and overlap among the TRLN member libraries. Diane Strauss,
who chaired the Task Group for TRLN, will present on how the TRLN
libraries have used the tool in their individual institutions -- in
analyzing library collections for potential new degree programs (NCSU),
benchmarking against peer institutions for funding proposals (Duke), and
more. |

The Future of the Online Catalog
Andrew Pace, Head, Information Technology, NCSU Libraries
presentation
The landscape of the integrated library system
is shifting. With this shift, the online catalog (arcanely named the OPAC)
has been relegated to a legacy status. Next generation search
technologies, however, will save the catalog from gathering virtual dust,
while at the same time satisfying users with new levels of performance and
information retrieval. Andrew will review the market landscape of online
catalogs and what is happening to them, review NCSU's Endeca catalog
implementation, and predict some future directions for the online catalog. |

How Digital Collections
are Changing Technical Services
Elizabeth Burnette, Interim Head of Acquisitions, NCSU Libraries
presentation
Karen Letarte, Interim Head of Metadata and Cataloging, NCSU Libraries
handout
As our collections become increasingly digital, what challenges and
opportunities will technical services units face in providing access to
digital resources? How will this shift affect staff, workflows, planning
processes, and existing service models? The presentation will
explore both the conceptual and practical aspects of change, and will
offer some suggestions on how to thrive in an era of revolutionary change. |
